What is special event insurance and why do you need it? - Steely and Smith Insurance - hoto by chuttersnap on UnsplashIn the litigious times that we now live in, many businesses not only carry general liability policies, but they also carry special event insurance as well – especially when they have an event.

Special event insurance comes into play when a business hosts an event for others to attend.

Let’s use this example – Your company wants to host a holiday party for their employees at a local hotel with a grand ballroom.

A luxurious meal will be served, alcoholic drinks will be available, and a fantastic performance group will be providing the entertainment.

A magical event, right?

Now imagine… The party is going well, the guests are enjoying themselves, but disaster strikes!

The caterer catches the hotel kitchen on fire. One of the guests had too much to drink and gets into a confrontation with another guest. And finally, the entertainment blew some lights out during their act.

Oh my! What a scene!  Your guests will no doubt remember this special evening, but for all the wrong reasons.

Thank goodness you purchased special event insurance!

This example might be extreme, but you get the picture.

Special event insurance covers these examples above and then some. Most specialty event insurance also extends to other issues, such as, but not limited to:

  • Liquor liability
  • Slip and fall accidents
  • General liability situations
  • Property damage during the event
  • Cancellation insurance

You never know when disaster will happen! The best-planned event can have problems occur.
